e-mail response to Inquistion Apologists

Hi,

The awful pictures which show the barbaric ways that people were tortured and killed in those days will make anyone cringe. This must be why they called it the "medi evil times"

But, what has changed? we read about mass killings all over the world, they call it "ethnic cleansing"

Torture is still currently happening in all the various places on God's earth where ever there is wars. Ethnic cleansing, CNN showed us a few years ago how captured American troops were drawn behind a cart naked through a town in Africa. Plus a lot of other atrocities which are currently happening throughout the world.

Yes we must learn from history, but must we continue to condemn people from certain groups such as the Catholics for the ancestors atrocities? If yes, then who is left to not condemn? the Americans virtually wiped out the Indians ( and not without torture, unless you call scalping a humane way of killing your enemy) the Germans for the holocaust, the French for Napoleon, the Mongols for Genghis Khan, the Russians for Lenin, The Muslims, The Jews for Christ, I could go on but I do not think you would read the entire letter.

Christians should be uniting towards being "one" when Christ returns, Revelations shows us that the birth pains are happening, are we ready? I don't think so if we are quibbling about who is right and who is wrong while there are millions of Satanist and atheists around that still need to be saved.

The time it takes to write about the wrongs of the Catholics and any other Christian group could rather be spent praying for the souls of those that have yet to be saved, such as the Satanists and atheists.

I wrote to chick publications about 2 years ago and never got a reply other than to say that it was received, was it that it is easier to ignore the truth for it might just go away.

Remember, " You are recognized by your fruit" (Mat.7:16) I see an organization which has found a way of making lots of money by playing on a controversial issue. Judging by the numbers of tracts which are distributed you must be sitting on a gold mine.

We are not discussing the attributes of two soccer teams to decide which is the best team, we are busy with the souls of millions of people, I can only pray that you don't lead them into destruction.

God Bless,

Richard Arthur. ( A Christian and Roman Catholic )

Dear Rich,

The main point of remembering the Inquisition is to prevent it from happening again. The exact number can be debated, but no serious historian can deny that the combined total persecuted by the Catholic church was in the millions. This proves several things: 1.) Maintaining that the Vatican has a stranglehold on Salvation is a dangerous belief, a belief that has been abused in the past to justify mass murder. 2.) The belief that the Pope is infallible is not only ridiculous, but also dangerous, for the reasons stated above. 3.) Decentralizing the power of the Vatican by allowing a healthy diversity of non-Catholic churches is one of societies best protections from another Inquisition.

There are many who pooh-pooh the importance of the Inquisition and pretend it could never return. While I personally think another bloodbath is unlikely, I recognize that times can change and there are still prominent Catholics who maintain the Inquisition is an "ongoing duty of the Catholic Church." If you really want to improve relations between the Vatican and so-called "heretics", I suggest excommunicating those over zealous members, including the ones who are burning down Protestant churches in South America and elsewhere. (Yet the Vatican remains silent on both issues.)

I care for many Catholics in my life, and don't condemn them for the Inquisitions one bit. They are as responsible for history as I am for slavery. (You can't stop an injustice if you didn't exist when it was committed.) But the Vatican cannot use that excuse because it is the same power structure that put the Inquisition into motion in the first place. The people have changed, but the institution has not. The dogma of intolerance remains in place as well. We are still considered "heretics", and there are still those who call for our trial and punishment.

While I appreciate your comments, please remember that Protestant concerns are based on very real events. The sad truth is that Satanists never presided over the murder of millions, but the Pope did. You may think that's nothing to worry about, but if the shoe were on the other foot, you'd probably be offended by those saying "forget about it."

Forgive? Yes. But forget? Absolutely not. That would dishonor the millions who died for practicing what many of us take for granted: Freedom of religion.
